Transporting Freight by Road
This qualification is available at Level 3 and is for anyone interested in driving a goods vehicle.
Vehicles can range from a van to an LGV – a lorry weighing over 7.5 tonnes.
Goods vehicle drivers transport and deliver goods between suppliers and customers. They could be travelling across the roads and motorways of the UK and beyond driving an LGV, or doing local deliveries in a van or on a motorcycle.
Goods vehicle driving is a skilled job, and doing it safely takes experience and training. Goods vehicle drivers need to know the rules of the road and have good time-keeping and planning skills. They can work anti-social hours, often alone, and spend time away from home.
There are 3 options depending on the vehicle you wish to drive, going from Van to Rigid to Articuated/Drawbar.
This is for experienced goods vehicle drivers who don’t have any supervisory responsibilities.
- Van Driver
- Rigid LGV Driver
- Articulated/Draw bar LGV Driver
