Maritime Studies: Officer of the Watch on Merchant Vessels of less than 500 gross Tonnage (Near Coastal)
This qualification is available at Level 3 and provides a structured programme of learning and practical experience with an emphasis on safety.
The Merchant Navy’s fleet of ships transports goods and people over the seas. It includes ships and oil tankers, cruise ships and car ferries and specialist craft that support offshore oil rigs or lay undersea cables.
This qualification is an excellent progression if you are already working in the shipping industry as a qualified seafarer. The job role involves assisting with bridge duties, steering, maintaining a course, mooring, anchoring and securing operations, plus following safe and environmentally friendly working practices
