Stevedoring Essentials

This qualification is available at Level 2 and provides a structured programme of learning with an emphasis on safety. Stevedoring covers the work that goes on in sea, river and inland waterway ports to load and unload cargo by various means including using lifting equipment and vehicles, and also the storing, receipt and dispatch of goods.

Loading and unloading ships requires knowledge of the operation of loading equipment, the proper techniques for lifting and stowing cargo, and correct handling of hazardous materials. In addition, workers must be physically strong and be able to follow orders attentively.
