Port Operations

This qualification is available at Level 2 and provides a structured programme of learning and practical experience with an emphasis on safety. This qualification is an excellent way into the industry for anybody who wants to work in a port. Port operations covers the work that goes on in sea, river and inland waterway ports, harbours, quays, terminals, wharves and jetties, and the associated handling and logistics operations.

The job role could include helping with the loading and unloading of cargo by various means including using lifting equipment and vehicles, and also the storing, receipt and dispatch of goods plus berthing and establishing vessel access, or working safely with hazardous cargo and in potentially dangerous environments. It could also include responding to emergency situations.
