New Magna Park distribution centre set to create 1,200 jobs

Detailed plans for a major new distribution centre at Magna Park near Lutterworth have just been submitted to Harborough District Council.

The plans submitted by the owner and developer of the logistics and distribution park, IDI Gazeley, are for a big new 100,000 square metre warehouse, for international distribution and express mail giant DHL.

The new facility would create 1,200 new jobs at Magna Park, which currently employs 9,300 people.

Already almost a quarter of all the jobs in the Harborough district are at Magna Park.

The new building would be in addition to the four sites that DHL already operates at Magna Park Lutterworth.

Gwyn Stubbings, planning director at IDI Gazeley, said the new development was a major vote of confidence in Lutterworth and the Harborough district,

“DHL is an internationally renowned blue chip company that already has a significant presence on the park and is a major employer at Magna Park” he said.

“It has chosen to expand in Magna Park because of the location, infrastructure and quality of resources.”

“Magna Park has been established near Lutterworth since 1987, employing over 9,300 people and indirectly supporting local businesses.

“We are an important part of the community and feel a real sense of responsibility to be a good neighbour whilst continuing to deliver the 
jobs and inward investment that the district and region need.”

If approved, the DHL facility would be the first step in a planned north-western expansion of Magna Park by IDI Gazeley.

The extension would be accessed through the existing Magna Park.

The planned extension would include highways improvements, a new public park and a major logistics education facility, Mr Stubbings said.

IDI Gazeley will submit outline plans for the wider expansion later this year.

The expansion proposals will be presented to the public on Thursday July 2 at Ullesthorpe Court Hotel (1pm to 8pm) and on Friday July 3 at Lutterworth Town Hall (1pm to 8pm).

In a completely separate plan, Barwood Development Ltd wants to build a three million square foot distribution site just south-east of Magna Park.
