The Logistics Sector is facing a huge driver shortage. Between 2010 and 2020, 149,000 new drivers will be needed in the sector. The Certificate to Work is a way of attracting new drivers into the industry no matter what their experience, as they will be able to demonstrate they have the knowledge, competence and skills to be a safe driver.
Driver Shortage Threat To Logistics Industry
Logistics in Northamptonshire employs 45,000 people, but people in the industry say it faces a crisis because of a shortage of qualified lorry drivers. Many Large Goods Vehicle, or LGV, drivers are coming up to retirement age, and its claimed that not enough young people are coming forward to replace them.
