Maritime Studies (Sea Fishing)
This qualification is available at Level 2 and provides a structured programme of learning and practical experience with an emphasis on safety.
This qualification is an excellent way into the industry for anybody who wants to work on fishing vessels.
It involves working as a key member of the crew responsible for health and safety and preparing the deck and equipment for the catch. The role also involves operating and repairing fishing gear and other equipment, and learning to gut and store fish. Part of the job is also helping to ensure the vessel is kept clean, tidy and ‘shipshape’ and possibly cooking for crew member
