Skills for Logistics is working with employers to develop a generic Logistics Apprenticeship Framework with the objectives of:
-
Designing a more robust induction package for logistics apprentices
-
Putting together a generic apprenticeship training plan which can be tailored to individual needs
-
Defining the role of the mentor
Allowing for fast tracking to a speciality via APL of evidence already gained.
The Qualifications and Credit Framework and the new SASE/W blueprint for apprenticeships will allow for this type of design and its development has the support of the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).
A proposed outline is detailed below and companies are invited to contribute to further development of the Framework.
The model ensures that potential apprentices can be attracted from a variety of routes, including those with no or few
qualifications.
The model also provides an opportunity for those individuals who already hold some form of qualification (a travel and
tourism BTEC, for example) to enter the logistics sector.
