Step 6 - Driver Trainer - Supply Chain Specific Skills

Whilst a large percentage of the skills mix needed to work in logistics is made up of craft skills (such as driving and warehouse) and core skills (such as communication and customer service) the other part of the mix is those skills that are necessary to work in specific supply chains.

For example, these may involve ‘food handling’ or ‘working in temperature controlled environments’ in the food & drink supply chain or ‘use of on-board lifting equipment’ in the construction supply chain. The correct identification of these skills and their inclusion in the skills mix will mean that the resultant qualifications will be better tailored and therefore more suitable to people and companies working in those supply chains.

These specific skills will be identified for each of the 11 supply chains in discussion with people who work in that supply chain through a separate forum for each supply chain. This will help to ensure that the skills identified are right. As these forums develop, the skills will be posted on the site. If you are able to join one of the forums, please contact naimah.haq@skillsforlogistics.org.
