The Skills Mix for Logistics
Core Skills are those which underpin performance at each step in the Stairway, irrespective of the actual job held. Somebody whose career is at Step 4 in the Stairway should display competence in these skills whether they are drivers, warehouse, or administration operatives.
Logistics Craft Skills are the technical or know-how skills needed to be able to carry out a specified role in logistics at a specific step in the Stairway. Two people, both at Step 5 in the Stairway, a senior driver and a senior warehouse operative will display competence in a different set of craft skills whilst both displaying the same level of competence in the Step 5 core skills.
Supply Chain Specific Skills are the skills needed to work in an individual supply chain. These will include detailed product knowledge and any specific handling techniques necessary (for example, temperature regimes in food & drink supply chains).
