Update: Winter 2010

  • Industry deserves the nation's thanks
The bad weather that hit the UK this winter has emphasised the extent to which the whole nation relies on the organisation, expertise and commitment of the freight logistics industry, and the men and women who work in it, in order to carry out routine life in the UK.
  • Modern Apprenticeships
Increasing numbers of employers are offering apprenticeships in various aspects of logistics for young people. Between 2005/6 and 2008/9 apprenticeships certified by Skills for Logistics increased by 130%.
  • £6m investment in Scotland
Modern Apprenticeships in the freight logistics industry in Scotland have received a massive boost. Apprentices, employers and training providers in the logistics industry have been taking part in a series of nationwide activities to highlight National Apprenticeship Week.
  • Dyf website for teens now up and running
A new careers website, Delivering your future, was launched this month. The website, which is funded by the trustees of the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council, aims to introduce young people aged between 12 and 18 to the world of logistics and highlight the range of exciting career opportunities within it.
  • MAN everywoman awards
Seven out of 10 jobs in London are expected to be taken by women between now and 2016, so there has never been a better time to celebrate women in a sector with which they have not traditionally been associated.
  • Government Relicences Skills for Logistics
The Government has announced the renewal of the licence to operate for Skills for Logistics. The announcement follows a comprehensive review carried out by the National Audit Office on behalf of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills....
