The shortage of recruits to the logistics sector is well documented. However, research revealed that one of the major reasons for the shortage of labour, in the sector, is the poor image projected by the industry.
Much of this is to do with the working conditions that exist. Working conditions refer to; pay, long and generally inflexible working hours, shift patterns, stress factors, working environment, supervision and career prospects.
Role models for the industry depicted in the press are often stereotypical and negative. Although the industry has a very public face, it is little known to those outside it.
So what are we doing about it?
