Job Purpose

Positioned within the Demand Chain Development team, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for setting the operational framework for taking SfL products and services to market, predominantly through the UK network of National and Regional managers.

Job Description

The Business Development Manager will drive new business activity and build on existing relationships and opportunities to increase our influence with employers and stakeholders across the logistics sector. This will be achieved by:

1. Working through the skills and intelligence teams to develop realistic products and services and ensure they are built and packaged in ways that are meaningful to employers.

2. Being responsible for ensuring that the real skills needs of employers are understood by colleagues across Skills for Logistics (SfL) and reflected in the products developed.

3. Identifying and promoting best practice sales approaches and techniques among the Regional and National teams to promote the products and services of SfL.

4. Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and employers to encourage the use of SfL’s products and services, building loyalty

5. Implementing and monitoring a business development culture across SfL that embraces intelligence gathering, prospecting and sales conversions and is reflected in a more professional approach to employers as customers.

6. Making best use of appropriate marketing approaches for different parts of the sector to demonstrably raise both awareness levels and the uptake of SfL products in the targeted sub-sectors.
7. Ensuring the data held within the CRM system is continually updated and improved by internal users and is fit for purpose as a basis for relevant marketing activities.

8. Monitoring and reporting on all relevant business development activity through production of monthly KPI reports and performance updates

9. Providing, alongside the PR and Events Specialist and Regional/National Managers, event support and well regarded support materials for regional and national events

10. Being the custodian of the corporate identity of SfL and ensuring that it is consistently followed in all direct communications material and any used on our behalf by third parties.

Qualifications

Appropriate higher education qualifications

 

Skills & Experience

Essential
• Strong influencing, negotiating and presentation skills
• Excellent communication skills at all organisational levels
• An ability to devise and initiate creative solutions to meet internal and external requirements
• Proactive, positive and enthusiastic approach to business development
• Knowledge of databases and recording systems
• Experience of internet based research
• Knowledge of excel and website
• Experience of telemarketing
• A cross functional team worker who can work with colleagues in all areas of the business

Desirable
• Interest in website development / maintenance
• Self-sufficient in IT skills
• Clear and engaging written style
• Knowledgeable in the Logistics sector

 

Person

You will have a clear and engaging communications style, both written and oral. You will be a team player, able to build and maintain rapport with others – professionals, employers, suppliers and colleagues.
