In September 2009 we published new Action Plans for our UK-wide Sector Qualifications Strategy (SQS).
The Skills for Logistics SQS was approved in August 2007 and sets out our vision of future qualifications and learning provision to other stakeholders and partners (such as government departments and agencies, awarding bodies and learning providers) and outlines ways in which Skills for Logistics intends to work towards refining and realising that vision.
The SQS has been developed to ensure that qualifications can be used as an effective tool to help address the six key issues, identified during the development of the Sector Skills Agreement (SSA), that prevent people reaching their full potential within the logistics sector – image, diversity, basic skills, skills gaps/skills shortages, quality of training and lack of recognition by employers of the business case for training.
The new Action Plans take account of policy changes and sector developments in the past two years and set out the activities we plan for the period June 2009 to June 2011 to continue progress towards our SQS objectives. The seven Action Plans replace the Action Plans in the 2007 SQS and are:
- Development of modular qualifications
- Promote Continuous Professional Development through the Professional Development Stairway
- Ensure comprehensive sector coverage of national occupational standards
- Ensure comprehensive range of apprenticeships
- Higher Level Skills
- Support School to Work Transition awards across the UK
- Core Skills in the Logistics Skills Mix
