Stairway Interactive is designed as a tool to support managers in their succession planning. Clicking on the relevant steps on The Stairway will reveal a very brief outline Job Description for the role concerned.

If that role is relevant to the organisation, then the list of tasks involved in the role can be used to produce a more formal job description or even a job advert. When the relevant tasks have been selected from the list, the job description can be further developed by selecting from the list of competency statements that apply to each job. A total of 470 competency statements are contained within the 12 steps of The Stairway so you will not be limited for choice!

Once a job description has been established for each role, you have something against which to recruit staff and something on which to base their induction period. The competences and tasks outlined in the job description can then also be used to develop objectives and can form the basis of an appraisal system.

Stairway Interactive will also allow you to plan development of the workforce to fill vacancies from within rather than the relatively more expensive option of recruitment.

If you are looking to develop your career in logistics, take a look at individual jobs on The Stairway.

If for example, you would like to be a Driver Trainer, click on Step 6, click on Driver Trainer and take a look at the brief Job Description.

For further information relating to the job role, click on Tasks to see what you will be expected to carry out in the new role. The various skills sections then provide you with details of what you will normally be expected to be able to achieve in that role. These are known as competency statements and give an excellent idea of how you should be able to perform in that role.

Finally, at each step in The Stairway, there will be qualifications and learning opportunities available that will help you to achieve those competencies and skill levels in order to successfully carry out the role. The qualifications section identifies what courses are available for that role at that step and provide an indication of whether they are funded.
