UK Jobcentre Monthly LGV Driver Vacancy Report

April 2009

There were 3,589 LGV vacancies recorded at Jobcentre Plus offices across Great Britain in April 2009.  This can be compared with 11,721 vacancies in the same month of 2008 – a decrease of 69%.  Between March and April 2009 vacancies increased  by 626.  

 

The months following December 08 has seen the lowest number of vacanies reported since our monitoring began.  This has coincided with the UK entering into a recession.

 

Wales had 89 vacancies, equating to 2% of Great Britain’s LGV vacancies.  Wales followed  the GB tend, with vacancies increasing 33% between March 09 and April 09.

 

Scotland had 259 vacancies – 7% of the GB vacancies.  Scotland mirrored the GB trend, with vacancies increasing 118% between March 09 and April 09.

 

Seven out of nine regions demonstrated an increase in the number of vacancies notified between March 09 and April 09.  The largest absolute increase in vacancies has been in the West Midlands, followed by the East Midlands and London.  The North East and South West both saw a decrease in the number of vacancies notified.

 

The annual rolling vacancies has demonstrated a marked declined the last three months, with GB now around the 92,000 mark. As there are 298,200 active LGV drivers in GB according to Annual Population Survey, the turnover rate is 31% per annum.
